Tree removal day: February 19, 2008

So, last we updated was final demo day on January 23. A whole lot has gone on since then, just not on the site of 312 23rd Street, until today.

Since then we have met with the developer, seen the plans for 312 23rd Street, seen the plans for underpinning our property (to protect the old foundation) and got a general sense of the next steps in the project. And continue to have a good relationship withthe developer as we move forward.

So now we bring you 3 weeks into the future...tree day.

It was a long day! First we thought both tree removal and underpinning would begin, but not enough room for two crews of workers (let alone the fact the demo company's machine is still on site). So, off went the underpinning crew, in came Dragonnetti Tree Removal. While it was trying at times, the crew did a good job. Sadly at the expense of two trees...

The beautiful Magnolia is unfortunately in the foot print of the new and improved 312 23rd Street, we were sad to see it go. The Ailanthus that straddled our property line was also at the mercy of the chainsaw, but in this case it was a good thin our developer worked with us (and picked up the cost) in taking it down. Late in it's life, it was drying up and losing major branches. The surprise was at the base: completely rotted through. One bad wind storm and someone (or something) would have been hurt.

With two trees gone the only plus side is all the light and air we have in the yard...for now.
