Excavation Day 3, SWO Numer 2: March 27, 2008
After some re-mediation from the Stop Work Order by DOB's ever-vigilant Excavation Squad, which included asking permission of 313 23rd Street's Apt. #1B's back yard as a base for excavation (see new fence and slab-be-gone), it looked like the folks at Monaco and NY's Finest were back to work.
That was until DOB's Excavation Unit showed up for a second inspection and, oops, more issues. While the crew was working under a proper rescind of the original SWO, the inspectors rated their excavation work as sub-par.
In a nut shell, you need to leave enough room between the grade (top of the soil) and the bottom of where the footings/forms will be built to create a 45 degree angle for safe and legal egress by the workers on site...that or install shoring as a method of making sure that the area where the foundation forms will be erected is safe for the workers and adjacent property.
Our boy from NY's Finest was working on a "shear cut" or more like a 80 degree grade according to DOB. So, back filling commenced and a new SWO was issued.
They did allow for the new cisterns to be delivered, but the site was buttoned up soon after. What will tomorrow bring? (don't we keep asking this?)
So, so far, two holes dug, two holes filled in.
