Excavation begins and construction fence up: March 3, 2008
Well, here's where the real fun starts. Demo...done. Underpinning...done. Initial waterproofing...done.
Excavation...starts! But, first, by DOB code, a construction fence must be properly erected adjacent to our property. Two ways of dealing with this: 1. Tell the developer to take leap and deal with the fall out. 2. Give permission for them to "temporarily" encroach onto your property (i.e. less headache and more safety for the workers) and work out a deal.
We chose #2, from experience and the track record of our friendly neighborhood developer.
So, fence come approx. ten feet onto our property line while they do excavation and foundation work (then to be moved back to five feet...hopefully) to give safe access to set up foundation forms along the property line. Safety first in our book. The downside, lots of plywood to look at (we may have a wall painting party in a week or two).
The guys at Monaco and NY Finest have been great so far. Fence up and initial digging along 313 23rd Street has been done. What will tomorrow bring?
